The Art of Fashion Photography: Capturing Style and Emotion

Writer's picture: Tara MillarTara Millar

Fashion photography is more than just capturing clothes—it's about conveying a story, an

emotion, and a sense of style that resonates with viewers.

One of the most striking elements of fashion photography is the use of color. In the image shared, the vivid colours immediately grab attention, pulling the viewer into the frame.

When on location, you use small sections of a busy street to your advantage. The green tiles on the doorway, contrasting with the brown leather laptop case not only speak of luxury but also capture a sense of masculinity and style. Exactly the brand Man 1984 puts out.

Smart casual, smart, casual are signifiers of different posing also. How do the clothes move. How would they be worn? If each image is walking, how would smart casual and casual differ?

Not only do you need to think fast in terms fixing your camera settings, using the right composition and being aware of changes in natural light, directing the shoot is the extra bit where you come into your own world. Do I make the subject feel uncomfortable on purpose to catch a disgruntled awkwardness or shall I put them at ease with compliments and laughing at myself?
